In 2005, Calgary Learns identified a need for volunteer ESL tutor training to support the growth and facilitation of volunteer ESL programs.

Four organizations with established volunteer programs collaborated to identify and address volunteer ESL tutor needs:

Bow Valley College
Calgary Public Library
Calgary Catholic Immigration Society
YWCA of Calgary

The successful partnership of our four organizations has led to the creation of the VESL website and the development of volunteer ESL training workshops.
