volunteer profile - Bobbi

At Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS), we are very fortunate to have an absolutely tremendous core of literacy/ESL volunteer tutors. As well as one-to-one matches, we have learning circle and classroom volunteers. This is where Bobbi fits in.

For the past three years, Bobbi has been a positive, stable role model for our immigrant seniors at Edwards Place. As a life-experienced person she injects fun into the hard work of learning English. A classroom volunteer, yes, but Bobbi is more. She is that one-to-one link needed to gently guide people over the humps of “funny English”. Her “down to earth” explanations, wonderful smile and T.L.C. approach have endeared her to the mixed language base of 15 seniors who know that without Bobbie in class, it would be like a day without sunshine. She, in turn, says the same thing about her weekly visits to class.
