volunteer profile - Carl

I have been tutoring on and off for several years starting with Bow Valley College as a teaching assistant, and now with the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society. I am currently working with Sudanese women seniors. Most of these women are not literate in their first language. As well as the group of women, I also tutor one Sudanese lady on a 1:1 basis.

For the most part my tutoring is one on one, so I am able to learn a little of their individual backgrounds. I so admire these women who have come from a country that was in a state of war for many years, and are now trying to make a life in a new country.

Like most volunteers I gain a lot from this teaching experience.

CCIS is so fortunate to have dedicated volunteers like Carl. After working for a long time in the corporate world, the change of pace really seems to suit Carl. He has a natural gift of caring and sharing.
