Why Volunteer??

My name is Joan Herman, and I am a volunteer ESL tutor at Bow Valley College.

There are several reasons why I volunteer. The main reason is that I find volunteering very rewarding. I enjoy helping people learn. When I see the excitement in my student’s eyes when they “get it” I think I am more excited than they are!

I am trained as a teacher but have made my first priority my family. I can not dedicate the time I would like to my teaching career. Volunteering at Bow Valley College gives me the opportunity to do something that I love.

I also volunteer because I enjoy meeting and working with people. My students are wonderful, as is the staff at Bow Valley College!
