volunteer profile - Oscar

Oscar has been a dedicated volunteer with Bow Valley College and the Calgary Public Library for numerous years. His commitment to volunteering is commendable and makes a significant difference to the lives of new Canadians. When asked why he volunteers with the ESL community, this is what he said:

By offering my service through volunteer involvement with the Calgary Public Library, Bow Valley College and other organizations, I have been given the opportunity to work with a diversity of people from different cultures. I have gained much insight from these experiences. Sharing my knowledge of the English Language and Canadian culture with new immigrants satisfies my personal and professional goals while fulfilling a community need. Thus, finding myself helping others gives my life a sense of meaning and purpose. I believe that I have a lot to contribute and my ability to transform my own life is by transforming the lives of other people within my reach. I have always been inspired by Mother Teresa’s own words "We can do not great things, only small things with love".
