volunteer profile - Vonda

My name is Vonda, and I am a volunteer with the ESL department at the YWCA.

I am a Registered Nurse by trade but have been a stay at home Mom for many years. I have always enjoyed working with people and became interested in ESL through my two daughters who have both been involved in teaching ESL. After taking a TESL course last year, I was hooked.

I find it very enjoyable and satisfying to see the progress the students make with the language. It is also exciting to help them learn about our culture.

Because the students come from so many different countries, an added bonus for me is to learn from them as well.

All of the staff at the YWCA have been very friendly and helpful. I have a sincere admiration for the teachers I have worked with. Their friendliness and innovative teaching helps to promote a very comfortable learning environment.
