web resources

Facilitator:
Maureen Stewart, Bow Valley College
June 5, 2010

This workshop provided volunteers with information on web resources to use in tutoring sessions with ESL learners. Topics covered included web resources for tutors and learners, with specific web resources for basic, intermediate and advanced ESL learners that focus on reading, writing, listening and speaking. All these resources can be found in the PowerPoint Presentation.

Volunteers also received information about working with learners who have little or no experience with computers. The Computer Literacy Power Point outlines a lesson and resources for learners who are brand new to using the computer and internet. The PowerPoint allows the tutor to walk the learner through the various components of the computer, and basic functions of the mouse and keyboard. This will hopefully make technology friendlier to learners and increase their comfort level with the computer.

"There was lots and lots of new information for me. The resources available for all the learners are astonishing. I will pass on these sites to the learners."

"I just wanted to thank you for the opportunity to attend the VESL Web Resources workshop yesterday. I’m relatively familiar with the internet in general, but would never have thought of or unearthed most of the sites mentioned."
